Hurricane Irene Project

Critical Thinking

1. What time of the year do hurricanes occur? Why do they only happen during that time?
The hurricanes would occur mostly from June 1 to November 30 because the ocean water are warm during this time frame. Hurricanes need warm weather to develop. The warmer weather causing more vapor and more precipitation.

2. How can the timing of the tides(high or low) effect the devastation of a hurricane?
High tides causes storm surge of hurricane goes further into the land and low tides causes less damage since the storm surge is weaker,so hurricane would not reach as far into the land. So high tides causes more damage than low tides. High tides result in flooding of the area.

3. If an area is fully saturated, will a hurricane have more or less impact on an area?
If an area is fully saturated, hurricane will have greater impact on an area. There are more flooding. Trees are knocked down.

4. How does groundwater saturation affect rivers and streams?
When there's a hurricane or heavy rain, rivers and streams will overflow with water leading to flooding of the area.

Reflection

1. What is something that you liked in this Mini Project?
I learned some of the natural phenomenas from this project. It's important to know how the phenomenas form and how we can prevent the disaster happen.

2. What is difficult for you on this project?
The most difficult thing on this project was to organize the details from all of the natural phenomenas because there were lots of things that had connections and confused me easily.

3. What would you change about on this project?
One thing I would change on this project was the grammar because my grammar is not good that people would not understand what I was trying to say.

4. How did this project help you learn about Hurricane Irene?
If there is a hurricane happen next time, I would know when would it mostly occur, what should I do, which places are safe for staying, and how can I protect myself.
